Grand Canyon National Park

Ich fuhr in den Grand Canyon von Cameron aus. Von Cameron fuhr ich westlich ab auf 64 Navahopi Road Richtung GRAND CANYON.    Die 64 fuehrt suedlich durch den Grand Cayon durch. Hier kann man ein paar wenige Aussichtspunkte bis zum Eingang aufsuchen. Auf den Weg dahin war das Wetter nicht so gut. Windig, regnerisch und Sandsturm begleiteten mich immer noch. Die Navahopi Road aendert ihren Namen in E. Rim Road. Sie bleibt weiterhin die 64.

Vor dem eigentlichen Eingang zum Grand Canyon kommt man nach Cameron zu einigen Aussichtspunkten. Beim ersten (14.27 Uhr) muesste man $ 2 Eintritt zahlen. Heute war aber alles offen, sodass ich kostenlos reinkam. Hier sollte man etwas vorsichtig sein, wenn man Kinder oder Hunde dabei hat. Hier kann man leicht in den Canyon fallen, denn eine richtige Absicherung gibt es hier nicht. Man kann direkt am Abhang laufen wo nur ein kleiner Markierungspfosten die Grenze anzeigt, aber nicht vor einem Fall sichert.

Bei gutem Wetter hat man hier eine tolle Aussicht. Ich wuenschte, ich haette dieses schoene Wetter erwischt. Denn mit blauem Himmel und ein paar weisse Wolken, wuerden meine Fotos besser sein.

I was heading to the Grand Canyon from Cameron. Here I drove west on 64 Navahopi Roade towards Grand Canyon. The 64 goes south through Grand Canyon. Navahopi Road turns into E. Rim Road. She still stays the 64.
Here you can visit the view points along the way to the Grand Canyon National Park. These view points cost only like 2 dollars or even nothing. Today, there was no one asking for an entrance fee. The weather was bad today. I was very unhappy as my pictures won’t turn out well.

The first view point (visited at 2.27 p.m.) would cost normally 2 dollars, but today it was free entrance. I did not like the thing that the view point was not secure enough. It was easy to fall down.

Danach komme ich am DESERT VIEW an. Hier steht ein Wachturm aus 1932, eroeffnet im Mai 1933. Architekt war Mary Coulter, die von Fred Harvey Company in 1930 mit dem Bau beauftragt wurde. Es wurde auch ein Restaurant und ein Souvenir Shop erbaut.

Da das Wetter so schlecht war, hatte ich keine Luste mehr auf den Grand Canyon heute und furh aus den Park hinaus in die naechste kleine Ortschaft namens Tusayan. Hier wohnen die meisten Grand Canyon Angestellten. Ich uebernachtete hier privat und nicht in einem Hotel. Gastgeber war der Chief der Feuerwehr und seine Frau. Sie erzaehlten mir auch, dass sie schon Arbeit durch den National Park haetten, aber leider nichts fuer die Kinder und Jugendlichen getan weren. Diese wuerden naemlich aus Langeweile kriminell und drogenabhaengig werden. Ausserdem ist das Leben dort auch fuer die Angestellten teuer. Dank des Tourismus ist Essen und Lebensmittel auch fuer die teuer. Sie muessen ca. 1 Mal im Monat einen Grosseinkauf in die 80 Meilen weit benachbarte Stadt machen. Er selber hat zu Hause zwei grosse Gefriertruhen in denen sie ihre Lebensmittel aufbewahren. Das Leben hier scheint fuer sie nicht einfach zu sein.
Due to bad weather I was not in the mood any longer for the Grand Canyon. I drove out of the park to the next town just before the Grand Canyon which is Tusayan. The Chief of the fire department and its wife hosted me for the night. They also told me about their situation. They have work due to the National Park, but they do not do anything for the kids in town. Those get bored and then getting into trouble such as robbery and drug abuse. Also living is expensive for them. They have to pay the same prices as tourists. They have to go to another town which is about 80 miles away to buy groceries. They have two huge freezers at home. Life must be tough out there. I think it is not nice that the National Park got that abused and also abusing its employees.
