Hong Kong

Finally I made it to Hong Kong. At least I have. My father has promised my mother to take her one day to Hong Kong. Unfortunately, years passed and he never kept his promise. I have invited my mom to join me, but she does not like long flights anymore. Wished I could have showed her Hong Kong.

Victoria Prison Compound - walking all around it

It was built in 1841 - victorian style with framework of granite and red bricks but the D Hall which was built in 1895 in a Neo-Georgian style - and supposed to be the first western building in Hong Kong to be constructed of durable materials. Most of the buildings within were destroyed by bombing during the 2nd World War. In 1946, the prison was re-opened after repairs and was in use until 2005. They use it now from time to time as an exhibition hall for non-profit activities.

The construction which has also neo-classical features; the wall granite blocks, started in 1913 and ended only a year after. When they closed it in 1979, it was used by different associations affiliated to the Hong Kong Police Force. There is a special underground tunnel in the building that was used to escort criminals into and out the Magistracy. The Magistracy might become open to the public soon.
