Ich hatte schon seit langem ein Auge auf diese Strecke gehabt und fand nun endlich im Oktober 2009 die Zeit, den Extraterrestrial Highway zu befahren. Ich war schon sehr gespannt, was es zu sehen gab. Der interessanteste Stop sollte wohl die mysterioese “Black mailbox” sein, die ein Anhaltspunkt zu Area 51 sein soll. Schaun wir mal, was mich dort erwartet.

I had my eye on the Extraterrestrial Highway for a while. In October 2009, I found the time for another roadtrip and finally made it on that highway. I was curious to see what is along that way. Is Area 51 to see? Will I find the mysterious black box which marks the way to Area 51. Let’s see what happens...

98 Meilen Extraterrestrial Highway bekam den Namen in 1996 aufgrund der vielen UFO-Sichtigungen. Ich versuchte auch den Alien Burger, der mit “out of this world” betitelt ist im Little A’Le’Inn Restaurant. Mir scheint die ganze Gegend allerdings nicht allzu gut besucht zu sein.

Am 5. Oktober 2009 mache ich mich dann von einem kurzen Aufenthalt in Las Vegas in den Norden auf. Es geht von der 15 links ab auf die 93 Richtung Crystal Springs von wo aus dann links ab in den Norden bis Warm Springs der Extraterrestrial Highway verlaeuft.
After a short stay in Las Vegas, I am heading (October 5, 2009) North on 15, turning left on 93 towards Crystal Springs. The Extraterrestrial Highway is between Crystal Springs and Warm Springs.

My TomTom GPS shows the Extraterrestrial Highway. It is kinda funny to see that Highway name. It always reminds me of the movie E.T

Die mysterioese Mail Box!!!
Sie markiert den Weg zu AREA 51. An dieser Mail Box treffen sich regelmaessig UFO Suchende und Glaeubige. Man sagt, dass an die 3 UFO Sichtigungen die Woche gemeldet werden.
Ich fahre hier auf die Sandstrasse ab bis zu den Warnschildern der nicht existierenden AREA 51. Wenn es hier nichts besonderes geben soll. Warum entdeckt man schnell ein Militaerfahrzeug auf dem Huegel welches einen beobachtet?

She marks the way to the not existing AREA 51. It is also a meeting point for UFO Seekers and believers. About 3 UFO Sightings are reported weekly. I am taking here the sand street up to the warn signs of the non existing ARE 51. If nothing out here exists, why is there a military van up on the hill watching you?

Eine kleine Abfahrt genommen... Took a turn somewhere...

Von hier oben hatte ich wenigstens einen guten Ausblick in die Ferne. From up here I had a good view.

Cedar Pipeline Ranch

Von Little A’Le’Inn Restaurant faehrt man ca. 15.4 Meilen, biegt links auf Cedar Road und nach 8.2 Meilen auf der linken Seite kommt die Cedar Pipeline Ranch.
From Little A’Le’Inn Restaurant drive 15.4 miles, turn left on Cedar Road and after 8.2 miles you will see to your left the Cedar Pipeline Ranch.

Hier treffen 3 Valleys aufeinander: Kawich Valley im Sueden, Reveille Valley im Nordwesten und Railroad Valley im Nordosten. Eine natuerliche Quelle macht diese Gegend fruchtbar, sodass es eine gute Location fuer eine Ranch ist. Es gibt hier so viel Wasser, das es mehrere Ponds speisen kann.
Die Ranch gehoert der Fallini Familie, die das Recht der Beweidung im Railroad Valley besitzt. Ihre Ranch befindet sich bei Twin Springs nahe der Kreuzung 375 und US-6.
Auch wenn die Cedar Pipline Ranch eine grossartige Location ist, ist sie leider verlassen. Grund kann aber auch der Nuklearunfall auf dem naheligenden Nevada Testplatz sein. Es fanden in den 50iger und 60iger viele Nukleartests statt mit nur etwas oder gar keinen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen , um die Verbreitung des radioaktiven Staubs zu verhindern.

Heute kann man noch immer die im Grunde gut gehaltenen Holzhuetten betrachten und sich von den Rindern beobachten lassen.

Three Valleys are connected here: Kawich Valley in the South, Reveille Valley in the Northwest and Railroad Valley in the Northeast. A natural springs makes the area quite a good location for a ranch. It has so much water that it can form some small ponds.
The Fallinie Family owns a ranch at Twin Springs near junctions 375 and US-6 and has the grazing right in Railroad Valley.
Though Cedar Pipeline Ranch is a great location, it remains abandoned. You can still enjoy exploring the wooden buildings which are in good conditions and been watched by the cows. The reason why this area is abandoned might be the nuclear accidents. Back in the 50s and 60s the nearby Nevada Test Site did lots of nuclear tests with small or none precautions in avoiding spreading the nuclear dust.

Vorweg eine Info. Auf dieser Strecke gibt es ein paar Sachen zu entdecken wie Ghost Town Tybo, Vulkansteine, Krater und den Humboldt Forest. Ich hatte das Problem, dass ich all dies nicht besuchen konnte aufgrund so gut wie leerem Tank. Ich fuhr bereits auf Reserve. Ich hatte einem Schild fuer eine Tankstelle gefolgt, die allerdings wohl eher nur eine Werbung war. Ich habe naemlich keine Tankstelle mehr auf dieser ganzen Strecke zwischen Warm Springs und Ely auffinden koennen. Daher rate ich, jedes mal aufzutanken oder gar einen Benzinkanister mitzufuehren. Bitte informiert euch vorab wo man tanken kann.

Unfortunately, I was quite unlucky as I could not visit all the sights along 6 between Warm Springs and Ely after driving on Extraterrestrial Highway. I was mislead by a sign for a gas station. There was no gas station and I was driving already on gas reserves.
I have missed Ghost Town Tybo, volcanic stones, the crater (it is a long drive to that one) and Humboldt Forest.

Ich hoffe, dass ich eines Tages die Zeit finden werde, diese Strecke noch einmal zu befahren.
I really hope that I find time to do this route again.
