Bei Exit 219, I 40, 11.19 Uhr, komme ich endlich zu den “TWIN ARROWS” (Foto weiter unten)
Ich freute mich schon etwas darauf, diese Route 66 Attraktion zu sehen und abzufotografieren. Ich wurde leider arg enttaeuscht. Drumherum wurde alles eingezaeumt. Betonkloetze wurden genutzt, sodass es aussieht, als waere der Strassenbau zugange. Das zu den Twin Arrows gehoerende Gebaeude „Twin Arrows Trading Post“  was auch eine Tankstelle gewesen ist, ist laengst Vergangenheit und die Twin Arrows sehen zum Weinen aus. Es scheint als wuerde sich niemand  um deren Erhaltung kuemmern. Eines der Pfeile ist mehr abgenutzt als das andere. Ein Replika dieser befindet sich beim Route 66 Casino (siehe dazu Route 66 Casino, 02.07.2008).
At exit 219, I 40, at 11.19 am, I arrive finally at the famous “TWIN ARROWS” (picture a few below).
I was looking forward to see the Twin Arrows and to take pics of it. But I got disappointed. They were fenced in and everything looked shabby and un-attended. One of the two arrows is in a bit better shape than the other. A replica is located at the Route 66 Casino (look at my logue from July 2, 2008).

Auf der pre-1947 der 66, bekannt als Townsend-Winona Road. Die Bruecke war auch in dem Film mit Tom Hanks “Forest Gump”, 1994 zu sehen.
On the pre-1947 alignment 66, known as Townsend-Winona Aord. The bridge was also seen in the 1994 movie with Tom Hanks “Forest Gump”.

FLAGSTAFF, elevation 6902, established in 1882. Ich komme hier um 11.16 Uhr an nach meinem Sidetrip zum Grand Canyon am Vortag (von Grand Canyon die 180 suedlich gen Flagstaff).
I arrived in Flagstaff at 11.16 a.m. after my sidetrip Grand Canyon the day before. I drove from Grand Canyon south on 180.

“Western Hills Motel and Restaurant”, 1960, 1580 E. Route 66, Flagstaff.

“66 Motel”, 2100 E. Route 66, Flagstaff war damals das 66 Court Motel. Was formerly the 66 Court Motel.

In Flagstaff mache ich nur kurze Fotostopps wie bei „Museum Club“, geg. 1931, 3404 E. Route 66, Flagstaff. Dies ist eher kein Museum, sondern eine Bar mit Tanzflaeche, Tv und Pooltisch. Eine kleine Ecke mit ein paar wenigen kaeuflichen Sachen gibts allerdings.
I am driving through Flagstaff with little photo stops.
“Museum Club”, established in 1931, 3404 E. Route 66, Flagstaff. It has a small museum but mostly a bar, dance, TV and pool table.

Tanken um 9.50 Uhr, $ 48.55, 11.562 Galonen. Ich esse bei Dennys fuer $ 9. Es regnet zwischendurch.
Getting gas at 9.50 am, $ 48.55 for 11.562 gallons. Having breakfast at Dennys for $ 9. It is raining quite often today.

Komme an einer Road Side Attraction vorbei. Hier steht ein grosser Holzfäller bei „Granny’s Closet Restaurant und Bar”, 1974, 218 N Sitgreaves St., Flagstaff. Vorher war es das Paul Bunyon Cafe.

“Motel Du Beau” / “The Du Beau Route 66 International Hostel”, 1929, 19 W. Phoenix St., Flagstaff.
Es war das einzig voll ausgestatte Motel in Arizona mit einem Buero im western Bungalow Stil.
It was the only full equipped motel in Arizona with an western bungalow styled office.

“Nackard’s Downtowner Motel”, 1929, 19 S. San Francisco St., Flagstaff.
War damals das Nackard Downtowner Auto Court. Der Name wurde in 1995 in das Grand Canyon International Hostel geaendert.
Formerly the Nackard Downtowner Auto Court. The name changed in 1995 to Grand Canyon International Hostel.

“Albert Wong’s Grand Canyon Cafe”, 1938, 110 E. Route 66, Flagstaff.

“Orpheum Theatre”, 1917-1998, 15 W. Aspen St., Flagstaff.
Komplett renoviert und wiedereroeffnet in 2002. Vorher stand hier das Majestic Opera House, 1911, welches in 1915 unter 61 inches Schnee eingestuerzt ist./Completely renovated and re-opened in 2002. The Orpheum replaced the Majestic Opera House, 1911, which collapsed in 1915 under 61 inches snow.

“Galaxy Diner”, 931 W. Route 66, Flagstaff.

Die Strecke, die ich durch Flagstaff fuhr, ist in 1. Linie die Route 66. Von Ost kommend auf E. Santa Fe Ave., die zur E. US 66 wird, dann mit Abstecher rechts auf N. San Francisco Street und N. Beaver Street. Hier gibt es One-Way Strassen. Zurueck auf E. US-66 faehrt man Richtung „Flagstaff Amtrak“ wo man links ueber die Bahnsteige faehrt, um direkt von W. Phoenix Ave. auf die S. Mikes Pike abzufahren. Somit faehrt man suedlich aus der Stadt raus. Hier muss man sich weiter rechts halten ansonsten faehrt man suedlich weiter ab auf der S. Milton Road. Man sollte auf der Historic US-66 bleiben.

Flagstaff ist eine niedliche Stadt. Hier lohnt es sich etwas rumzuschlendern und diese kleine Stadt auf sich wirken zu lassen.

The route I drove to Flagstaff was the Route 66. Coming from East on E. Santa Fe Ave. which becomes E. US 66, then going right on N. San Francisco Street and N. Beaver Street. Here you get to the one way street. Back on E. US 66, I drove towards “Flagstaff Amtrak” where to your left are the rail tracks. From here you go to W. Phoenix Ave and then on S. Mikes Pike. So you are leaving the town south. Stay
right. Otherwise you go to south on S. Milton Road. Stay on Historic US-66.
