Serra Chapel

Die Serra Chapel wurde in 1782 erbaut. Diese Chapel ist die einzig noch stehende Kirche in Kalifornien, in der Serra noch das letzte Abendmal zelbriert hat. Die Chapel wurde von Fr. St. John O’Sullivan von 1910 bis 1933 restoriert. Der sehr schoene Altaraufsatz im barockstil ist aus Holz gebaut mit Blattgoldueberzug.
The Serra Chapel was built in 1782. This is the only remaining Church in California in which Serra has celebrated the sacraments. From 1910-1933, Fr. St. John O’Sullivan has restored the chapel. The beautiful baroque retablo is from Barcelona and is over 400 years old. It is made of wood with a gold leaf overlay.

Die Ruinen der “Great Stone Church”. Der Bau begann in 1797 und dauerte 9 Jahre. Am Festtag des 8.12.1812, brach waehrend der Messe ein Erdbeben aus. Die Waende brachen zusammen und toetete 42 Indianer.
The ruins of Great Stone Church. It took nine years to build, beginning in 1797. On feast day December 8, 1812, an earthquake struck during mass. 42 indian worshippers were killed when the walls crumbled and the domes caved in. They never rebuilt the church.

        man sich bei der Sicherheit anmelden, die einem dann ein Parkausweis ueberreichen. Dieser muss bei Verlassen nicht
        zurueckgegeben werden.
        Das Museum ist geoeffnet von 10 bis 17 Uhr.
        500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, located on the Campus of Santa Clara University. At the entrance, security will
        hand out a parking permit. You do not have to give it back when leaving the campus. Museum open 10 am to 5 pm.
