Als ich die Mission San Gabriel Arcangel besuchte und die Minitaturen aller Missionen in Kalifornien im Garten aufgestellt sah, entstand “meine” Mission, die lautete, dass ich alle 21 Missionen in Kalifornien wirklich besuchen und die Fotos von diesen hier auf meine HP veroeffentlichen muss. When I have visited the San Gabriel Arcangel, I found the miniatures in the backyard. I took the pictures of every single one and then it came to my mind that my own mission will be to visit all the 21 Missions in California.

Endlich!! Am Sonntag, 18. Oktober 2009, habe ich meine “Mission” beendet! Ich habe die letzte Mission, San Luis Rey de Francia (Nr.18) in Oceanside besucht.
Finally, on Sunday, October 18, 2009, I have finished my “Mission” with visiting San Luis Rey de Francie (No.18) in Oceanside.

Zu beachten ist auch, dass vor allem sonntags Messen stattfinden und somit ein Betreten der Kirche/Chapel fuer Fotoaufnahmen nicht moeglich ist.

Fray Junipero Serra

verstorben 28. August 1784 / died August 28, 1784
(an der Mission San Carlos Borremo wo er auch seine letzte Ruhestaette fand)

Mitbegruender einige der 21 Missionen in Kalifornien entlang der “El Camino Real” 101.
He is co-founder of some of the 21 Missions along “El Camino Real” (101).

Gegen Anfang 1769 begleitete Serra den Governeur Gaspar de Portola auf eine Expedition nach Alta Kalifornien. Auf den Weg dahin gruendete Serra die Mission “San Fernando Rey de Espana de Velicata” am 14. Mai. Als die Gruppe San Diego am 1. Juli erreichte, blieb Serra zurueck um die Mission San Diego de Alcala, die erste von 21 Missionen in Kalifornien, zu gruenden.
At the beginning of 1769, Serra accompanied the Governor Gaspar de Portola on an expedition to Alta California. On the way Serra established the Mission “San Fernando Rey de Espana de Velicata” on May 14. As the group got to San Diego on July 1st, Serra stayed back to establish the very first Mission “San Diego de Alcala”.

“Mother of the Mission” bekannt. Sie wird auch “San Diego Mission Church” genannt. Heute ist sie bekannt
als “California’s First Church”.
The first Mission in California was built by Father Junipero Serra and therefore known by the name “Mother of the Mission”. She also got the name “San Diego Mission Church”. Today, she is known as “California’s First Church”.

Die roemisch-katholische Mission ist auch bekannt unter dem Namen “Carmel Mission”. Sie war das
Hauptquartier von Vater Fermin Francisco le Lasuen. Die Mission wurde Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts zerstoert
und die Aufarbeiten in 1884 begonnen. Heute ist die Mission eine Pfarrkirche.
The roman-catholic Mission is also known under the name “Carmel Mission”. She was the headquarter of Father Femin Rancisco le Lasuen. The Mission was destroyed mid 1800, but rebuilt started in 1884.

         Hier ist zu beachten, dass die Mission auf einer Army Base ist namens US Army Fort Hunter Liggett. Die Abfahrt befindet sich  
         auf der Jolon Road. Hier bitte ca. 18 Meilen fahren bis man rechts die US Army Base sieht. Hier rechts abfahren und am
         Checkpoint vorzeigen Fuehrerschein, Kfz-Zulassung sowie Versicherungsschein.
        Mission Creek Road, Jolon. Free entrance.
         Please be aware that this Mission is located on the premises of the US Army Fort Hunter Liggett. You will be 
         checked by the military asking for photo ID, drivers license, car insurance, licens and registration. The turn to the
         US Army is on Jolon Road. Just drive about 18 miles on Jolon Road till you see the Army Base to your right.

Die Mision ist eine vollfunktionierende roemisch-katholische Mission im historischen Distrikt von San Gabriel. Die Mission wird oft bezeichnet als “Godmother of the Pueblo of Los Angeles” und wurde gestaltet von Vater Antonio Cruzado.
The Mission is a fully functioned roman-catholic Mission in the historic district of San Gabriel. The Mission is oftened named as “Godmother of the Pueblo of Los Angeles” and was designed by Father Antonio Cruzado.
