An der 395 in Kalifornien direkt bei dem kleinen Staedtchen “Lone Pine” gelegen. Felsformationen die u.a. aussehen wie Tiere, hunderte von Felsboegen gibt es zu entdecken, Wandern, Filmgegend.
Man kann sich mit Karten am Visitor Center eindecken und mit der Movie Karte beim Filmmuseum.

Situated on 395 in California at the small town “Lone Pine”. Nice rock formations looking such like animals, arches, hiking, movie location.
You can get maps at the Visitor Center and the Movie Map (slim brochure with pics and locations) from the movie museum.

I will show you my self guided tour. There is much more to see such as a hike of Mt. Whitney and area, more rock formations and arches.

Kurz nach dem “Eingang” auf der linken Seite sah ich eine Felsformation, die aussieht wie ein Gesicht mit einer Hand davor. Unten Fotos Weit- und Nahansicht.
Just after the “entrance” I found to the left a rock which looks like a face with a hand in front of it. Below pics from far and close.

Ich suchte eine Weile bis ich ihn fand. Ich kam nicht direkt von der Strasse (was einfacher gewesen waere, da man nur etwas ueber den Huegel gehen muss und dann ein paar Schritte weiter den Felsen entdeckt).

Nach Elephant Rock kommt alsbald die “Movie Road” (N 26.59 560°, W 118.10 920°) rechts abgehend.
After elephant rock you will get to “Movie Road”, to the right.

Wenn man nicht rechts auf die Movie Road abbiegt, sondern weiter geradeaus faehrt, kommt man zu Mt. Whitney. Zuvor gibt es noch auf der rechten Seite einen Wanderweg zu “Mt. Whitney Arch”. Hierzu faehrt man rechts ab auf eine Sandstrasse und sieht gleich ein offenes Gate. Wanderweg auf der naechsten Seite.
If you leave the Movie Road and go the street further ahead, you will drive to Mt. Whitney and before you will get to “Mt. Whitney Arch” to your right. You have to turn right on a sand street to find an open gate. Hike is on second page.

Nimm Wasser mit. Der Hike ist ein ganzes Stueck und den Berg hoch.
Laufe durch das Gate, ueber die Bruecke und laufe entweder links etwas entlang mit Blick auf die Arch in der Ferne um dann Querfeld ein zu laufen oder nach der Bruecke direkt Querfeld ein. Ich weiss leider nicht, ob es einen richtigen Weg dahin gibt. Ich habe keinen vor Ort erkannt.
Take enough water with you as the hike is not really considered short, but also not long; but steep/up the hill.
Walk through the gate and over the bridge. From here you can go kinda straight to the hill or walk about half a mile left after the bridge and stay right of the fence. I walked along the fence and saw the arch up the hill (to my right). It looked far and as I did not know if there is a way to it, I just walked straight to it over brushes etc.
