Eroeffnet in Maerz 1931 als das Hauptquartier von Edison Company und als das erste “all-electric building” im Westen. Die Symbole am Gebaeude stehen fuer hydroelektrische Kraft, Licht und Elektrizitaet. Die 13000 Quadratfuss grosse Eingangshalle hat eine 40 Fuss hohe Decke und 17 Marmorvariationen.
Filme wie “The Phantom”, “48 Hours”, “Arthur and Mac Arthur” wurden hier gefilmt.
Opened March 1931 as the headquarter of the Edison Company and also as the first all-electric building in the West. The symbols above the entrance stand for hydroelectric energy, light and power. The 13,000 square foot lobby has a 40 foot high ceiling and 17 varieties of marble. Movies such as “The Phantom”, “48 Hours”, “Arthur and MacArthur” were filmed here.

Der Eingang an der Olive Street ist bekann fuer die “Black Dahlia”, eine 22 jaehrige nicht so bekannte Schauspielerin Elizabeth Short, die an diesem Eingang das letzte Mal gesehen wurde. Sie wurde auf einem leerstehenden Grundstueck am 15. Januar 1947 tod aufgefunden. Die Tat blieb bis heute unaufgeklaert.
The entrance on Olive Street is known for the infamous “Black Dahlia”, a 22 year old actress named Elizabeth Short who was seen for the last time leaving the Hotel from this entrance. Her dead body was found on a vacant lot on January 15, 1947. The crime remains unsolved.

“Pershing Square”, zwischen/between 5th and 6th Street and Olive and Hill Street.

Pershing Square wurde in 1866 als “Spanish Plaza” ausgelegt. In 1890 wurde es umgestaltet und dann in “Central Park” umbenannt und wieder in 1918 um schliesslich zu Ehren von WWI General John Pershing in “Pershing Square” umgenannt zu werden.
In den 50iger Jahren wurde Pershing Square seines Gruens “beraubt” welches fuer den Jungle Cruise im Disneyland dienen sollte. Das letzte Design vom Pershing Square stammt von 1994 vom Architekten Ricardo Legorreta.
Pershing Square was laid out in 1866 as a “Spanish Plaza”. It was redesigned in 1890 and named “Central Park”. They redesigned it again in 1918 and named it “Pershing Square” in honor of WWI General John Pershing. In the 1950s, the park was stripped out of vegetation to use it for the jungle cruise ride at Disneyland. The latest design is from 1994 by architect Ricardo Legorreta.

Wenn man moechte kann man von hier aus noch zur Hill Street ins “Jewelry District” laufen. U.a. wurde hier der Film “Speed” gedreht.
You can walk to Hill Street to get to the “Jewelry District”. Among many movies done here was “Speed”.
