Man verzeihe mir evtl. Fehler.

Los Angeles is not right away Los Angeles. There are small cities which belong to the County. Normally Los Angeles starts kinda East of Beverly Hills and goes up to Los Angeles Downtown. All around there is Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Westwood, Santa Monica (a town for itself) etc.
That is why I am trying to put as many infos on them in this category “California” as I could. Please forgive me if I do make some mistakes.

The “Amerika Index” should help you to find your way around on my homepage.
Weit ueber 80 Staedte gehoeren dem L.A. County an. Ich nenne nur kurz die groessten:
More than 80 cities belong to L.A. County. I am just mentioning the biggest ones:

By the end of the mexican-american war in 1848, Los Angeles and California were bought of from the “Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo” so that a part became America and Mexico kept Baja California. Los Angeles become a Municipality on April 4, 1850 just before the State California got his full status as a State.

Persoenlicher Hinweis: / Personal recommendation:
Please think twice before you are driving through Compton, Watts and Inglewood. If you really wanna go there, please be careful. I would not go there in the early morning or after sunset. Sometimes tourists who arrive at LAX just drive through these towns to get to their hotel not knowing that those towns are considered dangerous.
There are not really interesting sights in South Central (have a look at WATTS in my Amerika Index which is an exception).
If you arrive at LAX you are also quite at the “edge” of Inglewood and such as the most hotels in the LAX area. Be careful in considering a hotel or motel around LAX. If you wanna book a room in that area, consider chosing one next to the airport.
You can drive up north from LAX taking the streets such as Sepulveda Blvd., Lincoln Blvd. or the Freeways 105, 405 and 110.

PARKEN / Parking:

Please read the parking signs carefully. I know that they are quite confusing, but it will make sense after a little while. Sometimes parking in a residential area is restricted (street cleaning days and often a permit required).
At the meters it will say how long parking is permitted. Generally, it does not cost anything on sundays. The parking enforcement is quite quick and mostly they check the area every hour and are also quick in writing a ticket (depending on what you did wrong, but mostly it costs about $ 40 when you did not feed the meter). It will cost a fortune if they tow your car (minimum $ 160).

The best way to travel around Los Angeles is by car. It all depends on where you stay and where you want to go. You could also consider taking a bus or the metro www.metro.net. I personally do not like to take the bus. Do not get me wrong, but the so called customers are mostly a different kind of people... It is not really a pleasure to take the bus.
You can see the time schedule for busses on the page of the metro. You can type in where you want to start and where to go. It tells you where and when to take the bus and how much the fare might be. Make sure to have enough change with you.

ESSEN/FOOD    Ein paar, die ich gerne mal aus eigener Erfahrung erwähnen möchte / Only a few I wanna mention...
Try the fresh and tasty  IN & OUT BURGER. Check online for the SECRET menue. The fries are made fresh which means that they take big potatoes and cut them by hand at a machine. So the first time you will eat the fries it makes you think WHAT? It will be strange as you are used to fatty french fries. This great franchise (only within California and one in Las Vegas) uses the best oil you can imagine. Really, it tastes so good and the burgers are not too big. You can even eat them after midnight. No tummy ache :-)

This one is located on Sunset Blvd and in the Valley. The burgers are great too, but they offer also some other stuff. Go and try them out. I loved them too. 2nd place on my burger list.

Link to some food experience you have to try out - if there is time :-)    LINK

So many people love to go to the Cheese Cake Factory.
That is a restaurant with all different kind of food which offers a great variety of cheesecake. Those cakes are tremendous heavy!!! If you are not used to it save your money and share first only ONE piece. The problem which you can experience is that you get your meal not really warm at the place at THE GROVE besides having a long waiting time on your hands beforehand. And at the locations at Marina del Rey it happend to us that we got food poisining with a salad. This can happen everywhere, but I am used to get great food at this restaurant. Really, you should go there and try it out. Even getting my christmas meal cold, the taste was good. But I left it on the table and went off without paying. They were not able to heat up such a great meal after two times asking and talking to two different managers on that evening. Besides this mishaps, I still recommend this restaurant as it is so well known in Los Angeles and still affordable or the common tourist.

If you pass the restaurant called CALLENDERS (most likely when beeing in the area of LACMA on Wilshire Blvd.), just go in. The food is very good.

My most favorite franchise restaurant is DENNYS which you will find kinda everywhere in the States. I love to have breakfast there when I am on the road. Lunch and dinner menu is great too of course for a diner! So if you are a common tourist and on a great roadtrip in the States and wanna have a decent meal, you cannot go wrong to look out for this diner. Of couse, do not close your eyes to some other interesting diners on your way. America offers always great experiences when it comes to food - you either love or dislike it.

There are so many to mention. Just beware of the not so nice ones. You can go totally wrong when it comes to Burger. I just like the good ones, not the big ones and the tasty ones with a good bun. I dont think you will ever like to put McDonalds on your frequent visits list again.
